All over the world, 90 million drivers use the Waze app. Why does it work? Because it combines two sources of data: the map of the city and the community of users that give on-the-ground, real-time data.
Did you know? God has provided you a very special spiritual ‘waze’ for our journey toward Him – and it also involves an amazing ‘map’ and an awesome community of ‘users.’ (You’ll hear more about them in our talk.)
Welcome to our brand new soul-stirring series, The Ways of the Saints: How to Be God’s Representative on Planet Earth. (The Waze of Saints. Get it?) We’re excited to share this powerful set of teachings with you. Get ready to rock your world.
The first talk in our brand new series entitled “HAGIOS” reminds us that we were made by God and for God. So whenever we veer away from our purpose and design, we get lost and confused. The talk reminds us that we need to fulfill our purpose – to follow God’s commandment “to love God with all our heart, will all our soul, and all our mind” – because we have been set apart for God. We are hagios.
Talk 2 of our brand new “WAYS OF THE SAINTS” series entitled “TSELEM” told us that we’re already a saint. In Hebrew, the word “image” is tselem and it means “Statue”. During ancient times, when you eneter a city, most likely, you’ll see a tselem of their King. And instantly, you know who’s in charge. The tselem was the symbolic representative of the King’s presence. God forbade the making of tselems because there is already a tselem of God. He created men in His own image and likeness. We are the image of God. We are the face of God. We are God’s walking presence wherever we go. We are God’s representative in this world. We are the tselem of God.
Talk three of our WAYS OF THE SAINTS series entitled KENOSIS, we learned that as a saint we are to be Kenosis, the Greek word for emptied self. Kenosis in Christian doctrine is self-emptying of Jesus’ own will and becoming entirely receptive of God’s divine will.
In the last installment of our Ways of the Saints series, in the Council of Ephesus, they called Mother Mary, Theotokos – meaning God-Carrier. But since, as St. Paul mentions, Christ lives in you – You are a God Carrier. You carry God in your heart. And in God’s magnificence and grace, when we lose our way, fail to follow the right route and sin, the Word of God and the Church are there, ready to help us find our way back to Him. God is already in you. Return to Him.
Sometimes, when life feels overwhelming, and all you have are questions, you start feeling hopeless and a bit lost. But it’s during these times that someone praying for you can give you the hope you need to go on and face life’s challenges.
